Video Broadcasting Labs

Introductory Broadcasting

Grades 4+

This 9-36 week curriculum allows 4 groups of 6-8 students to:

  • Use a camera for still photography
  • Use a camera for videography
  • Use microphones and a sound board
  • Use a green screen and edit backgrounds
  • Write, film, produce, and edit videos up to 2 minutes in length
  • Write, film, produce, and stream a school news cast
  • Write, film, produce, and edit a school video of at least 4 minutes utilizing to be placed on the school/district website
  • Give thanks to the people who assisted in the production

– script writing (short plays/skits)
– script writing – interviews

Emerging Broadcasting

Grades 6+

This 9+ week curriculum allows 4 groups of 6-8 students to:

  • Use a camera for still photography
  • Create backgrounds for use in photographs or videos
  • Use a camera for videography
  • Use microphones and a sound board
  • Use a teleprompter to support scripts and read from a teleprompter
  • Use a green screen and edit backgrounds for photos and videography
  • Write, film, produce, and edit videos up to 10 minutes in length
  • Write, film, produce, and stream a daily school news cast
  • Write, film, produce, and edit (as a class) an 8-minute school video containing interviews, information, photography and videography, to be placed on the school/district website
  • Produce an end-of-the year 4-minute montage of photos/video for streaming to a YouTube channel or to be shown to the school at an assembly
  • Credit the people who worked on the video using standard credits and ensuring no plagiarism nor royalty disregard

Advanced Broadcasting

Grades 9+

This 9-36 week curriculum allows 4 groups of 6-8 students to:

  • Use a camera for still photography
  • Create backgrounds for use in photographs or videos
  • Use a camera for videography
  • Use microphones and a sound board
  • Use a teleprompter to support scripts and read from a teleprompter
  • Use a green screen and edit backgrounds for photos and videography
  • Create a professional-looking anchor desk background to be used in daily newscasts, background for each main activity covered in highlights
  • Write, film, produce, and edit videos up to 15 minutes in length
  • Write, film, produce, and stream a daily school news cast
  • Write, film, produce, and edit (as a class) a 12-15-minute school video containing interviews, information, photography and videography, to be placed on the school/district website
  • Produce a live stream and recording of sports events, academic bowls, school plays and concerts
  • Edit the recordings of events and create highlights with voice-over to be placed on school/district website
  • Create an end-of-year video highlighting the events of the past school year to be shown the last week of school to a school assembly which includes photos, videos, music, and voice-over and placed on YouTube and the school website
  • All productions are in accord with the legalities for all photos, video, music, sound
  • Display credits per industry standards
  • Ensure no plagiarism or intellectual property rights infringement
  • Ensure royalties are researched and paid as needed
