Multimedia

Students explore multimedia authoring techniques and strategies. Students explore various types of media and how they can be combined for optimum impact. Major equipment includes computer microphones and sound editing software.

Lesson 1: Multimedia Intro

In this lesson, students are given an explanation of multimedia basics and related careers, with emphasis on Microsoft PowerPoint. Students will complete a worksheet demonstrating an understanding of multimedia basics.

Lesson 2: Storyboarding

Students explore the importance of storyboarding and the process of storyboarding. Students create a basic storyboard for a project example.

Lesson 3: How to Make a PPT Presentation

Students will the basics of creating a PowerPoint presentation. Students create a new presentation, add slides to a presentation, select a slide layout, select a design template and color scheme, and move objects within their PowerPoint presentation.

Lesson 4: Text

Students learn and apply what they have learned to demonstrate an understanding of each of the following:

o How to type and edit text in slide layouts

o How to import text from another source

o How to add, position, format, edit, and type in a text box

o How to change text font

o How to change text size

o How to change text style

o How to change text alignment

o How to format bulleting and numbering of text

o How to change color of text

o How to insert WordArt

o How to format and edit WordArt

o The role text plays in a PPT presentation

Lesson 5: Graphics

Students learn and apply what they have learned to demonstrate an understanding of each of the following:

o How to use a picture from the Internet in PPT

o How to insert a picture from their files into PPT

o How to insert clip art

o How to resize graphics

o How to crop graphics

o How to add a border to graphics

o How to change the color, brightness, and contrast of graphics

o How to change the order of overlapping graphics

o How to move graphics

o How to incorporate graphics into a multimedia presentation

o How to set a picture as a slide background

Lesson 6: Video

In this lesson, students learn how to add and edit videos in Microsoft PowerPoint. Students will then practice what they have learned in an activity. Students insert and format movies from clip art and from files on the computer.

Lesson 7: Audio

In this lesson, students are presented information explaining how to record and edit audio using a microphone and the program Audacity. Students learn how to use audio in Microsoft PowerPoint. Students practice what they have learned in an activity that includes recording their own voice and editing the audio file. Students record audio using a microphone export audio from Audacity. Students edit audio in Audacity using the following processes importing, trimming, move, effects, and overlap. When incorporating audio into a presentation, students set timing, choose play options, choose stop options, and change sound volume.

Lesson 8: Links

Students are given a description and explanation of how to insert and use links in multimedia PowerPoint presentations. Students will practice these skills by inserting hyperlinks to a website, an existing file, and another slide in their presentation.

Lesson 9: Slide Transitions

Students are given information concerning slide transitions, slide animations, and automatic timing. Students learn what these terms mean and how they are used. They also learn how to insert the transitions and animations and how to set the automatic timing. They then practice these skills. They also learn how to set animation schemes and how to set up audio in conjunction with slide transitions and slide animations.

Lesson 10: Final Presentation

Students apply the concepts learned in the previous lessons to design create a multimedia presentation that meets specific criteria.
