Processes of Life

Processes of Life

Students explore various life processes and fundamental elements of life including adaptation, heredity, cell functions, and responses to stimuli. Students create models of DNA, chromosomes, cells, and their processes. Students also explore how their bodies react to stimuli such as light and exercise. Equipment includes DNA model kits, chromosome model kits, flashlights, and stopwatches.

Lesson 1: Kingdoms of Life

Students explore the five kingdoms of life. Students classify various life forms into their appropriate kingdom based on their characteristics.

Lesson 2: Cells

Students explore cells and cell structure. Students create a plant and animal cell model. Students simulate various cell functions such meiosis, mitosis, and osmosis.

Lesson 3: Genetics

Students explore basic genetics. Students build DNA models, complete Punnett squares, and predict offspring characteristics based on parent characteristics.

Lesson 4: The Human Body

Students explore the systems of the human body. Students investigate how their bodies react to stimuli such as light and exercise.
